"It's that bracing spirit of art anarchy that makes the on-and-near St. Claude Avenue art scene the spot to watch in 2008." - Doug MacCash, Times-Picayune, Dec. 28, 2007

"...in many respects the most satisfying exhibition I've ever had... Maybe because of the burgeoning art district... developing there. Or maybe because of the nature of the unfeigned eccentricity of the New Orleans resident." - Skip Williamson, Artist, April 2008*

"LOVE LETTERS"

"I've told anyone who'll listen that, in many respects it was the most satisfying exhibition I've ever had. Primarily, I think, because of the people who attended. Not at all snooty and pretentious, like many art patrons (Like here in Atlanta f'rinstance). And not superficial dorks cruising from gallery to gallery in search of cheap white wine, but really not interested in the art (Like a crowd I had in Philly a couple of years ago.). I dunno...the people who showed up in NOLA were more straightforward and appreciative. Maybe because of the burgeoning art district you guys are developing there. Or maybe because of the nature of the unfeigned eccentricity of the New Orleans resident.

Thanks again. Let's continue this relationship.

- Skip [Williamson]"

SIDEARM GALLERY

"Shedding Skins” - Group Art Show with music and entertainment by Never Ever and Match Castashadow

Opening: Saturday, May 10, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., through May 16th

What does it mean to be a young creative female in contemporary New Orleans?

Five local artists team up to tackle this question. Presenting a medley of mixed medias, these young woman use personal experiences and interpretations to explore and deconstruct the freedom of the embrace that is life in New Orleans. A city that honors tradition, yet promotes the subversive, a place where a young woman can feel both bound and emancipated by its sulty embrace.

These artists contemplate these paradoxes through installation, photography, and performance. Featuring artworks by Alice Cork, Sara White, Rachel Gaudry, Esther Murphy, and Sarabeth Dunton. Music and entertainment by Never Ever and Match Castashadow.

SKIP WILLIAMSON & CHRISTINA GUSEK

***Closing Sale: 5% off all Williamson & Gusek works***

"Artist Skip Williamson, (is) one of the beloved granddaddies of the nihilistic underground comics movement... Trippier than a sheet of windowpane acid, and often more political than compatriots like R. Crumb, Williamson also invented the "Playboy Funnies" section of America's favorite lad mag."
- Diablo Cody (Academy Award winning author of the film "Juno".)

Chris Gusek, an artist originally from western Massachusetts. Her work is disquieting, willfully scatological and morbidly uncivilized. She's obsessive/compulsive, a fan of Heavy Metal and her art is like Yellow Submarine meets Charles Manson if Charles Manson were female.
